Kamlah was born in the Caribbean island of Antigua & Barbuda and moved to the UK at the age of two. Throughout her youth, she moved between the two countries and is now settled in the UK. A self-taught artist, she creates expressive works in acrylic and digital media, characterised by vivid colour palettes and a exploring themes of themes of eternity, the divine, and the enduring presence of soul.
Navigating life between Caribbean and British cultures has given Kamlah a unique lens through which she explores questions of identity, belonging, and spiritual rootedness — themes that are central to her creative practice.
Although she has always had a deep love for art, Kamlah pursued a career in engineering. In late 2020, she returned to her creative practice as a way to reconnect with her passion during the isolation and restrictions of the pandemic. Since then, she has approached her art with seriousness and intention, developing a distinctive voice and treating her artistic work as an essential part of her life alongside her professional career.
Kamlah’s work draws inspiration from her cultural heritage, faith, and human connection, inviting viewers to reflect on the relationship between self, soul, and the eternal. Since reigniting her practice, she has exhibited in juried group shows and open exhibitions across the UK and the Caribbean, contributed to community art projects, and shared her work on digital platforms. Her bold use of colour and symbolism has gained recognition for its emotional depth and spiritual resonance.
I’m drawn to bold colour, West African and Caribbean symbolism, and the idea of the enduring presence of soul. Mystical, mask-like faces and recurring sun motifs reflect my fascination with ancestral memory, spirituality, and the eternal. Through each piece, I seek to create space for reflection — where soul, culture, and the sacred meet
